The Matron
In the precursor to the story, Edea was a Matron of an orphanage caring for 7 children; Selphie, Irvine, Ellone, Squall, Seifer, and Quistis. Her orphanage was on the Centra continent to the south, in remnants of ruins near the western coast, which was a perfect place to raise the children. They had plenty of places to run around along the coast and in the field of flowers and grass next to the house. Edea dedicated her life to those children.
One day Ellone left the orphanage. It devastated the children, for she was like an older sister and a protector to each of them, but the one most affected was Squall. He cried for her, became distant from the other children, and began to change into a more introverted boy than he was before. Edea noticed this change and made sure to watch him and be with him when he decided to leave the others and be off by himself.
One day, when she was keeping an eye on Squall, a young man appeared to her and began to speak with her as if he knew her. He told her much about a time and a place that was foreign to her, and she showed interest and tried to comfort the man. Suddenly, as they were speaking, a woman with silver hair and a red dress approached them, staggering. Edea knew she was a sorceress looking to pass her powers to someone, because she knew she could hold those powers.
From that point on her life was changed. She continued to raise the children but she had new ambitious… possibly to save the world from her own fate, or maybe just to save the world from what she witnessed. She met a man with as much ambition as her named Cid Kramer and they were wed. They created her vision, Garden, in Balamb with the unavoidable financial help from and investor named NORG. From there they made their plans for SeeD and the future of the children she had raised and many others in their world.
Even in all their success, the day came that Edea left her world and was possessed by Ultimecia, leading to her becoming the worlds newly fears and respected sorceress… the seeming successor of Adel’s reign.
And the rest is History…
