Seymour Guado was the beloved only song of Jyscal and his wife now known as Anima. His half Guado half Human heritage made it difficult for him to take on the role as the next Maester of Yevon, become a leader of the Guado people, or even exist in a world with both heritages.
So Jyscal and his wife decided it would be best for them if his wife and his half Guado son were sent away to the Baaj temple to help their people come together and improve their society, as well as keep them safe. Between his mother and his distraught emotional state and the seclusion of the temple, he grew up living a life that revolved around his past, living in a world where he was accepted by no one. On top of that, his mother, the one person in the world who loved and understood him, decide to end her life with him to give him what he would otherwise never have: Power in this world.
But that was too great of a price for this young and fragile boy to pay, for the loss of his mother and the weight of the world on him lead his heart to grow very dark. Anima was the most powerful of all Aeons, and the Baaj temple was soon after destroyed and sealed by Seymour. At first he refused her gift of power and lived alone until the age of 18 on the island. Eventually, he returned and made sure no one could get the Aeon [or at least not easily!] With the present from his mother and his new lack of fear of the people who disliked him, he returned to the world of his forefathers and won their respect as a great and powerful summoner. Unfortunately for his people, he had other motives.
In his father’s footsteps, he became a Maester of Yevon, representing the Guado to the world. He had revolutionary ideas of making the Guado less secluded from the world’s eye in an effort to unite everyone. But in a religion that runs the world like a government, there is corruption to be had with power.
Seymour learned the truth of Yevon when he became a Maester and had motives of his own. Aside for his want for the young summoner, Yuna, he also wished to posses all the power in the world, for he knew its source and purpose: he wanted to become Sin. To cover his own trail, he killed his father with his own two hands and received his place at the head of the Guado. He even offered to Yuna that he would be her ‘Lord Zaon’ and help her continue her pilgrimage… ultimately turning him into Sin. But, of course, our main part of characters along with Yuna meddled in his affairs and stopped him from becoming Sin and manipulating the world by taking his life.
While the story of Seymour’s youth is a sad one, even his mother knew the evil which lied within his heart. His want for the destruction of all of Spira through becoming the ultimate evil in this world was probably catalyzed by his mother becoming an Aeon, leaving him as a young boy, or maybe even his father’s [seeming] abandonment of his family, but in the end Seymour is really the definition of power hungry.
